Setup connections for download by Demander.

Type of connections

Demander lets you configure up to four individual connections. Each connection can be assigned to a remote device when devices are added to the database. So there may be two or more different modem types to meet different remote device requirements. In praxis there may be an analogues modem and a GSM modem.

Setup a connection

To setup a connection click 'Connections' and the destined serial port 'COM1..COM4'. A page like below will be presented to you:

Setup a direct cable connection:

The area 'Connection Settings:' is used to setup the serial port. Enable the connection and specify a name for this connection. The name should describe the kind of of connection somehow like 'COM1,9600,8,1,N' to make later configuration easy. Setup the communication parameter to meet those of the connected device. The 'Connection Timeout'  should be set to about 3 seconds for direct connection and to about 30 seconds for modem connection.

Setup of a modem connection:

If a modem is used then activate the check box 'Use this port for a TAPI Device'. If the modem is already installed then click 'Configure TAPI Line...' to setup the modem parameter.

Especially for GSM modems select the correct speed.

Note: The communication setting of this dialog will be used for modems and not those of the direct connection.

Install a modem

To install a modem click 'Install a Modem...' and Windows will present the modem installation wizard. The installation of modems is a job of Windows. Please use the help of Windows and the modem manufacturer for the installation.
