Demander the Vending
Machine Data Download Solution.
Introduction
Demander is a software package to download
audit data and other data files from vending machines. The current version supports
following features:
Demander is a sophisticated application for local or remote download of any kind of devices in the vending industry. The minimum configuration uses just a serial link or a modem for download. The files are placed in a directory on the local disc or somewhere in the network. The download status for each download is saved in the database and can be inspected at any time.
Functional description
Demander is normally installed on a standard PC with a Microsoft Windows platform. The PC may be connected to a LAN network to access files on a server. All the devices to be downloaded are entered and stored in a device database. This includes details as download time, download interval, number of retries, type of connection, type of protocol e.t.c. Jobs can be manually started to test the download of individual devices. The scheduler will start download jobs as setup in the device database. If a file is successfully downloaded, it is saved in a local directory or in a servers remote directory. If a download fails, the job will be rescheduled for a later time. If a device fails for several retries, the job is canceled and the status is written to the device database. Status report queries can be made at any time in the device database.
System considerations
If GSM modems are used for download the maximum download time per device is approximately 2 minutes. This time includes dialup (or connect), authentication, download and disconnect. In the worst case every third device must be retried. So the maximum downloads per hour with one line will be 20 devices. If we schedule the devices at night from 10.00PM to 06.00AM it will be 160 devices per line or 640 device at maximum.
The download time will vary with different data volumes to download. Also by use of modem lines over wires.
